Changes of Neuropeptide Y Immunoreactivity in Periventricular Hypothalamic Nucleus and Paraventricular Thalamic Nucleus of the Aged Spontaneously Hypertensive Rats







Abstract
This study have elcplored certain changes with aging of NPY-immnureactivity of the periventricular hypothalamic nucleus (PHN) and paraventricular thalamic nucleus (PTN) in the spontaneously hypertensive (SHR) and normatensive Wistar Kyoto rats (WKY). Changes of NPY-immunoreactive fibers with aging in the PHN and PTN of aged SHR and aged WKY rats were demonstrated by immunohistochemistry. In the 3 month-old WAY rats, the high density of NPY-immunoreactive fibers was observed in the PHN and PTN. Similar NPY-inununareactivity was showed in the PHN and PTN of the SHIt. In the 18 month-old group, the ale-related decreases were slightly observed in WKY and there were no significant differences in 51IR compared to the 3 month-old in the PTN and PHN. However, compared to 18 month-old SHR and WKY, the age-induced decreases were showed in PHN of the SHR. No differences were showed in the PTN. In the 22 month-old SHR, more decreasing NPY-immunoreactivity was observed in the PHN and PTN.
